Pole Dancing Showcase in NYC

On January 21st I performed in a showcase titled: White Hot Winter. It was put on by Aerial Amy, a fabulous and passionate pole dancer who is committed to giving pole dancers a place to practice and perform in a nurturing environment. No video submission was required to be chosen, one simply had to submit their name — and that’s what I did.
I squealed with delight once I received the email that I had been selected. I began putting together a routine that I ‘ve had in my head for months. My friend Mimi is a phenomenal singer and we discussed doing a piece together. We found a guitarist, Sal, who we went to high school with. It was an F.D.R. reunion!
The performance day grew near I began to regret signing up for it. I was sooo nervous and got a queasy feeling whenever I thought about it. I barely even spoke about, leaving some people to wonder if I was even excited about it at all. I was, but I couldn’t talk about it because of that queasy feeling.
The big day came. Mimi and Sal were ready to go. My make-up was flawless! (Thanks Khadine!) My hair was doing everything it needed to despite the snow. The only concern I had was some pain in my wrists, so I made sure to tape them during my run through. Then it was time to sit in wait.
Mimi and I took turns reassuring each other while Sal casually strummed his guitar. Right before it was time for us to go on. I had a minor freakout. Hands on knees, shallow breathing freakout!
The MC announced me as the next perform and I heard my friends in the crowd cheering. I instantly feel better. I told myself that these are your family and friends and they are completely on your side. We walked out and took our places. I cued Sal, he began to play, then it was over, just like that. My performance flew by! It was so much fun I wanted to do it again! I was on such a high afterwards. And watching the other girls come off the stage and seeing their smiles was just as gratifying! All the ladies did such a fantastic job and pole dancing bonds were formed in that warm-up room. It’s a night I won’t forget.
