Our very own Jessica Mari places 2nd at Polesque!
Dec 20 | Add commentsThe fourth installment of Polesque was held on Sunday December 18, at the Galapagos Art Space. Polesque is a pole dancing competition with titillating exhibitions from the nations top Burlesque performers. I am a Polesque veteran, having been to every competition since it’s inception, but this Polesque was extra special because our very own Jessica Mari was chosen to compete with 14 other talented pole artists.
Polesque tickets sell out quick! And seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. The ECP crew wanted to guarantee great seats to see our girl perform, so although doors opened at 7pm, we got there at 4:30! We waited outside in the cold for about an hour, before a Galapagos staff member was kind enough to let us wait in the lobby. Eventually the lobby felt like the D train during rush hour, it was packed with pole supporters, but everyone patiently waited for the doors to open and finally we were inside, seated and ready for the show.
I understand the nervousness that comes with performing, but let me tell you that myself along with ECP crew were so nervous, so anxious, so excited to see Jess! I think we were more nervous than she was! We had seen her run through the routine countless times, but this was different. This was the time that mattered! She had 3 minutes to give the judges her all, and all we could do was watch her and send good vibes.
The music started and there she appeared on stage with her tattered white dress and veil. She uncovered her face and broke our hearts. The emotion on her face was unbelievable! She danced her heart out and the crew just watched her in silence. However, once she executed her first spin, the silence was gone. We were screamin’, shoutin’, hootin’ and hollerin’! Her performance was astounding! Once it was over I found her parents in the crowd and they were just glowing with pride.
Jessica made it into the top 3! And after a Pole War, she earned placed 2nd! A big congratulations to Dalijah who came in 3rd, with her seductively smooth routine and to Tracee who rode the F train to 1st place. And kudos to Marina who also competed in the event. She put on a flawless routine and we are proud to call her a friend to ECP!
A big THANK YOU to Annemarie Davies, who in my opinion, was the best Polesque host to date!
Check out Jessica’s routine below, then sign up for her class!
